Why do I need Anti-Virus software?
Unfortunately Viruses are now a part of the Internet and Email. There are recorded statistics of 60% of all emails sent containing a virus during an outbreak period.
If you don’t have virus software installed and maintained on your network you will be infected with a range of potentially disastrous viruses.
Why do I need to update virus definitions?
New viruses are released on a daily basis, with anti-virus manufacturers creating updated virus definitions to safeguard from the viruses on an equally frequent basis.
If your virus definitions are out-of-date you maybe protected from some of the older viruses but you will still be susceptible to new viruses.
Not updating virus definitions will ultimately become the same as not having virus protection at all, with the same disastrous effects.
Why to I need to monitor virus software?
With so many threats now widespread on the Internet, and the likelihood that if you leave something long enough it will fail it is imperative to monitor your virus position.
Monitoring virus definition updates, performing regular scans, following up virus detections to confirm your software has neutralised the threat, and assessing your network for new methods of infection (such as installing a new computer or device) is as much a part of maintaining your virus position as installing the software yourself.
What information do I need to protect from viruses?
The answer to this question may be different for each individual company, so each company should assess their individual situation. The most common threats are:
- Email
- The Internet
- Software Security Related Viruses
- Remote network users without suitable virus software
- CD’s and Files loaded onto your network
Do I need to scan my computers for viruses regularly?
Yes. There are ways in which viruses can slip through the net – a virus hidden deep in a .ZIP file may not be detected by some virus software.
It is a very good practice to comprehensively scan all of your data at periods of low activity (to maintain system performance).
What is the difference between a file-based and email-based virus?
An email-based virus is essentially a file with a virus stored in an email. However due to the nature of email a different method of scanning is required – virus software that can detect a virus in a file may not be able to detect it in the same file if it is in an email as an attachment.
Therefore you need to make sure that all possible methods of infection are dealt with.
Why is it best to have my virus software centrally managed?
Each machine on your network should have virus software installed. If you have 10 machines on your network that are not centrally managed, then there are 10 virus definition updates to, 10 product updates, 10 regular scans, 10 machines to monitor – in essence there is 10 times as much to go wrong.
If you software is centrally managed, then there is effectively 1 solution to manage, which dramatically reduces the amount to go wrong, and increases the overall effectiveness of your solution.
What is included in your ‘Network Support Anti-Virus’ Package, will it maintain my Anti-Virus position so I don’t have to worry?
