What is the most common problem when working with a designer on a new logo design?

The most common problem is assuming a designer knows everything you do – they don’t!

Imagine a blank piece of paper, a designer now needs to know everything to fill it with what you want – name, slogans, colours, orientation, ideas, competitors, preferences, ideas, style… the most important factor along the way is input and feedback from you.

What basics things should I keep in mind when thinking about a new logo for my company?

It is not necessarily a checklist of what to do, but what not to do. The worst type of design is normally too ‘busy’ or ‘complicated’. The most effective designs are normally ‘simple’ and ‘clear’.

From a design perspective, there is a particular skill in making something look simple but not elementary.

It is also highly recommended to have a single point of contact for the designer to communicate with.

Furthermore, if first impressions are good ones, this is a good place to stop. It is likely that the designer would have tried every colour a different way round, every image slightly one way or the other… consistently tweaking a design trying to reach ‘perfection’ (which is subjective!) will very quickly lead to an over-complicated design.

What software do you use to create logos?

Our designs are created using Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. 3D Studio Max is heavily utilised for 3D designs. Our designers may call on a number of packages when they are trying to accomplish something specific.

Can you only create company logos?

We create a wealth of design-based material. Logos are normally the first step for a new company, our services continue with professional and effective business stationery, marketing & branding, web site design, as well as most types of conventional – and unconventional – requirements.

Can you work with existing material?

Yes! We work with any material you have – from hand drawn sketches to near complete designs that require ‘polishing’.

What if I already have ideas for my logo?

Great! We revamp existing logos, work from existing ideas, or simply provide expertise where required. The more input from you the better!

What if I don’t like my concept designs?

Then we establish what you don’t like, why, what needs to be changed or direction for a new concept design. The important part is that we have feedback – even if it is negative.

If you are not happy with a concept design – it is not necessarily a bad thing. As we know specific things that are disliked, it provides an opportunity to create something that is specifically liked!

What is a concept design?

When designing your logo, we will first create a number of ideas - these are not finished logos, but ideas about shapes, colours, fonts, etc. They will provide you with impressions and give you a chance to say 'No - I don't like that' or 'Yes - I really like this, but maybe changing this a little'.

From a concept design you will not have a final product, but you will be provided with an idea of what the final product will be, and you will easily be able to decide whether it is a good direction to take.

How many changes may I request for my logo?

During the design process you may offer as much input as you feel necessary, and we will work creatively from your suggestions and requirements. There is no limit to the number of requests you may make within reason.

How do I communicate about my logo, samples and preferences?

All communication about your logo, including viewing the concept designs, communicating with the design team, and account management is through your Key4 Business Central account.

Will I require different versions of my logo, and are they provided?

The logo design package includes creation of your logo in multiple formts and sizes that are ready to be used immediately.

You will only require other versions of your logo if you have specific requirements, such as sign writing vehicles, although the source files that are provided with the logo will be suitable for any specific requirements you may have.

If you have any specific requirements, then you can let us know when you order your logo using the logo design form, or you can discuss any requirements with the design team prior to order.

Where should I place my logo on my stationery, website, etc. ?

It is a good idea to keep the appearance and location of your logo the same on all medias.

In general, the best location is the top left hand corner of your communications. This helps build a consistent image. Whilst this may sound extremely simple, something that is consistently placed is more easily recognised and remembered by the human brain!

Where should my logo be used?

Everywhere!

Your logo should be consistent throughout your entire company. It reinforces your customers perception of you. Your logo should be utilised on letterheads, business cards, compliments slips, brochures & all marketing material, web site, emails, faxes, company vehicles, etc.

What if I don't like my design?

Throughout the design process we keep in constant contact, and work is reviewed at key stages. You can login to your Business Central account at any time at check the progress of the work, as well as providing feedback and information with the design team. By the time your logo is ready, you will already be fully aware of the work that has been done and have a good idea of the end product.

It should never get to the point where you do not like your logo, because the logo would never have made it to the end of the process!

How long after ordering before I will have my logo ready to use?

From order to completion logos will take approximately 10 days to complete. This allows for existing work at the time of the order, so we may be able to act quicker for urgent requirements. Without interuptions, a high quality design can be accomplished in approximately 5 hours - although all designs differ.

We also have to take into account the amount of time it may take you to respond with feedback and input, so the time frame is partly in your hands.
